What this is

Expense Tracker is a personal expense-tracking and bill-splitting app. This policy explains what data it collects and how that data is used and shared.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and email associated with your Google account.
  • Receipts and financial data: images or PDFs of receipts you upload, and the merchant, item, price, tax, and total information extracted from them.
  • Friends and bill-splitting data: the email addresses of friends you add, and how you assign items and balances between yourself and them.
  • Usage information: when you were last active in the app. This access is by invitation only, and the person who runs the app can see who has an account and when they were last active.

How your data is used

Your data is used solely to provide the app's functionality: extracting receipt line items, tracking your monthly spending, and calculating who owes whom on shared bills. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Third-party services

  • Supabase hosts our database, file storage, and authentication (including Google sign-in).
  • Google Gemini API processes uploaded receipt images/PDFs to extract structured data. Receipt images are sent to this API for that purpose.
  • Google Sign-In, if you use it, shares your name, email, and profile picture with us as provided by Google's standard OAuth consent screen.
  • Vercel hosts the application itself.

Data retention and deletion

Uploaded receipt files (photos and original PDFs) are automatically deleted after a retention period you choose in Settings — 12 months by default, or never. The extracted data (merchant, items, amounts, splits) is not affected by this and is kept, along with your account information, until you delete it yourself. You can delete your account and all of its data at any time from Settings, or contact us using the email below.

Who can see your data

Your receipts and spending are private to your account. If you split a bill with a friend who also uses the app, they can see the specific items assigned to them and the resulting balance between the two of you — not your other receipts or spending.
